Custom Texture Backup
EmoteLab keeps extra copies of your custom textures so a later overwrite is easier to undo. Backup is enabled by default.
For how custom textures are edited and saved, see Using Custom Textures.
How backup works
Backups are written in two situations. Both use the same folder, and all models share that folder.
- Timed backups: EmoteLab copies the current custom textures on a schedule. If there is no change to the textures, the backup will be skipped.
- Overwrite backups: EmoteLab makes a copy just before it replaces the current custom textures, including:
- before loading another character
- before Clear Character
Because timed backups and overwrite backups share one folder, older copies are removed when Maximum Copies is reached. If you need a backup, recover it right away.
Backup settings
- Enable Backup: Turns automatic backup on or off.
- Interval (minutes): How often a timed backup is made.
- Maximum Copies: How many backup copies to keep. When the limit is reached, the oldest copies are removed.
- Open Backup Folder: Opens the folder that contains every backup copy.
Recovering a backup
- Click Open Backup Folder.
- Copy the backup you need to a safe location, or back into the model's Custom Textures cache folder.
- In EmoteLab, reload the textures and save character.
Do the recovery as soon as the files are lost/overwritten. Waiting increases the chance that a newer backup has already replaced the copy you want.
Clear Texture Cache
Clear Texture Cache is a repair option, not part of the backup rotation.
Use it when the built-in texture copies were accidentally altered or corrupted. That is rare. If resetting textures does not restore the defaults correctly, try this option.
